Alex, I think you have made a very expert analysis of what caused your problem. It looks like you won't demand the steering box caryatid with the type of wheeling y'all do if the frame is repaired and reinforced properly. You volition need a welder, they should grind a V in the crack and weld it upwards, and so weld together the two layers of frame on the inside seam, then add a strip of thin metallic along the bottom of the frame in that area.

Cracks in the frame around steering boxes are a universal trouble with 4x4 vehicles, and each vehicle has information technology's proper solution. On an XJ, it appears that either the entire structure must be allowed to flex, or everything needs to be braced. Bracing 1 section simply makes a shorter department accept all of the abuse causing problems. I went for years without any cracks, and I thought I was doing real adept, but the metal somewhen fatigues, and in one case I started getting cracks I got tons of them. I have repaired at least 6 different cracks in my frame around the steering box, top, lesser, inside and outside. My bumper mount has had one of the steering box bolts run through it, but I should have had them all run throught information technology, and I had a steering box brace. I now take plated the frame on the bottom, and I formed a plate that I welded to the inside of the frame. Personally, I think a reinforcement plate on the within is better than ane on the exterior, but information technology's not apartment in there and no i makes a plate for that. The C-rok plate should work, but I don't know if all aftermarket bumbers will fit with it, I know mine won't. Marking at ORGS has considerable feel with this state of affairs and he likewise has a fix. BTW, I'k not running my steering box caryatid any more, either.

Ane question that I call back is still out in that location to exist answered is if the combination of a stout forepart bumper, a steering box brace, and a rail bar mount caryatid, will solve the trouble. At that place is considerable flex in the frame around the track bar mount, if you lot look downwardly the side of the frame while someone turns the wheel lock to lock information technology will scare you. When the front frame is reinforced with a strong bumber and mount, and the box is braced, the frame will still flex around the runway bar mount calculation a lot of stress to the frame, and so peradventure adding the track bar brace will keep the whole area from twisting. Of course, so you may add more stress effectually the A pillars which are too prone to slap-up. T and J makes a chassis stiffener that runs between the LCA mounts and the rear leaf spring hangers which also could be a very good idea to add. Just, I think the lesser line is to brand critical areas stronger just allow them to flex, or brace and support everything. I have added a full cage AND chassis stiffeners along the side of the frame rails, now I have NO flex any.
